Composting Workshops

Workshops are offered from May through October at Closed Loop Park, Dirt Works and Olympia Farmers Market demonstration gardens. Workshops alternate between Yard Waste and Worms / Kitchen Waste.

Closed Loop Park is located just inside the Thurston County Waste and Recovery Center entrance at 2418 Hogum Bay Road in Lacey (Hawk’s Prairie). Dirt Works Garden is located inside Yauger Park in West Olympia. Yauger Park entrance is on Alta Street off of Capital Mall Drive. The entrance to the garden is located at the end of the Yauger Park parking lot next to the new Community Garden. [map]

*During the Plant Sale, take home composting information will be available throughout the sale. Master Recycler Composter volunteers will be stationed by the composting area to answer questions.


Olympia Farmers Market Garden (Gallacci Gardens) is located on the East side of the Market. The Market is located at 700 Capitol Way N, Olympia, WA 98501 From I-5, take exit 105A, to City Center After passing through the Capital Campus underpass, turn right on Capitol Way. Proceed north through downtown Olympia,toward the waterfront. Plenty of free parking behind the Market, at the end of Capitol Way [map]

  • Seasonal Garden Transformations
    Starts: 5:00 pm
    Ends: Aug 2, 2015 - 8:00 pm
    Description: Summer Splendor – 5pm – 8pm. RSVP by July 29 to Suzannah at klanies@co.thurston.wa.us and you will receive garden directions at that time. Summer drought is in full force, but with a little care, the fuchsia, dahlia, hydrangea, late daylilies, oriental lilies, etc. are the ongoing treats of the summer garden. This last visit will include a demonstration of making semi-hard wood cuttings using currant and hydrangea plants. Dahlia cuttings will also be discussed, but this is really a technique to use in the spring. Wine and cheese for tasting will be provided as a special treat. Additional wine will be available at cost per serving.
